  We use 12 basic Hubud Drill in our academy,  below are photographs and directions which we hope will help you to familiarise yourself with this drill., and remember any technique from any martial art can be worked and practised from within the drill, and any technique used within the drill can be countered by any martial art, and the counter can be countered  and  so on, the drill can be practised at 3 speeds,  slow, medium pace or fast.

Rick throws the right uppercut

 

Steve responds with a low cover

Quickly Steve's right hand moves to check the elbow

And, then Steve follows through with a left hand elbow control

Still maintaining the elbow control, Steve throws a right elbow straight

 

Rick responds with a rear hand barrier

On the half beat, Steve's left hand moves up to a cross grab Rick's rear hand barrier

 

Pulling Rick's rear barrier down, Steve follows up with a back hand strike

Rick stops the back hand with a front hand barrier

Steve left hand then moves in for an eye jab

Steve then follows up with a right uppercut  ( This is the half way mark of the drill, the drill will switch to the other person now)

Rick stops the uppercut with a left low cover

As the right hand moves quickly to check the elbow

Rick then gains control over Steve's elbow

Still maintaining the elbow cover, Rick throws the right elbow straight

Steve stops the elbow with a rear hand barrier

On the half beat, Rick's left hand moves in to cross grab Steve's rear hand barrier

Rick then throws a back hand strike

Steve stops the back hand strike with a front hand barrier

Rick's left hand  then moves in for an eye jab

This shows the completed eye jab position, as Rick prepares to throw the right uppercut to continue the drill

The cycle will then continue in a loop, so return to photograph one and continue the drill, The key words for the Uppercut Drill are,

Block, Check, Control......Elbow, Cross Grab, Back Hand, Eye Jab.

 

Work the drill for 2 to 3 minutes,

This is a repetition drill.

The uppercut can be changed to a straight punch, or a hook punch,

The elbow can be changed to a back hand or straight punch.

Any technique from any martial art can be included in the drill, and any martial art can counter any martial art within the drill.
